Trust Administration

Trust Administration

Administering Trusts throughout Michigan

Trust administration includes, among other duties, managing trust property, dealing with tax issues, preparing annual trust accounts, and distributing trust property to beneficiaries.

Assisting Trustees

You should appoint a dependable person to serve as the trustee for your trust. This person will administer the terms of your trust. At Willis & Willis, we advise trustees about their fiduciary obligations and serve as trustee as requested. We have two office locations, in Kalamazoo and Paw Paw, Michigan, to ensure we can conveniently guide you through the trust administration process. One of our attorneys is also licensed in Florida to better assist our "Snowbird clients".Contact one of our attorneys today to schedule an appointment about trust administration.

Business Transfers

As business owners, we understand the complexities associated with running a business. We strive to ensure the smooth transition of a business to a person's heirs, and minimize the time and expense associated with probate. We know the rules and regulations associated with transferring a business, including issues related to winding up business's affairs, closing the business accounts, liquidating business properties, and transferring assets to heirs.

While many lawyers can act as a trustee for a general trust, few can assist heirs with the ownership and management of businesses. Our attorneys have experience as business owners, and Michael J. Willis is a certified public accountant (CPA). We manage your family's business, and will hire money managers to handle your estate's liquid assets.

Trust Administration

Trust administration can be a confusing process if you lack appropriate legal counsel. We will guide you through the administration process, helping you deal with issues related to:

  • Inventorying and valuing the assets of the trust
  • Paying creditors of the estate and trust
  • Identifying and distributing property to trust beneficiaries

For more information about trust administration, contact one of our lawyers at Willis & Willis. We represent clients throughout Michigan, and are licensed in Florida to better serve our "snowbird" clients.
