Home Foreclosure Lawyer Serving Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids

The real estate market in Michigan and throughout the country has led to an increase in foreclosures. Unfortunately, during the previous real estate boom, many families took on mortgages that they are now unable to afford, such as ARMs (adjustable rate mortgages), and home foreclosure is becoming a very real potential threat.

Our lawyers at Willis Law are dedicated advocates for homeowners' rights. We understand the stress and emotions that accompany debt and foreclosure and work to find a resolution that best suits our clients' needs.

If you have been threatened with foreclosure or have already received a notice of foreclosure, contact our firm as soon as possible. The sooner we can become involved, the sooner we can help. Though we may not always be able to save your home, we may be able to help avoid the foreclosure through a variety of ways, such as:

  • Loan modification: Lenders are now often offering loan modifications in order to continue to have the borrower pay on the loan, but at a lower rate. There have been several government programs created to force lenders to help borrowers modify their loans in order to stay in their homes.
  • Short sales: Lenders often allow a short sale when the sale will result in a smaller financial loss than a foreclosure. This may not allow you to keep your home, but will prevent you from incurring more debt and credit problems than a home foreclosure may cause.
  • Deed in lieu of foreclosure: A deed in lieu of foreclosure is a document that conveys all of the interest that a borrower has in the property in question to the lender in order to satisfy the defaulted loan. Once the deed is signed, foreclosure is avoided, though the borrower may not keep the home.
  • Other foreclosure alternatives: We can also help clients with other foreclosure options, such as bank workouts, a reduction in principal or a waiver of deficiency.

Wrongful Foreclosures

In some instances, a bank or lender moved forward with a foreclosure in an illegal manner. Whether there was a modification agreement in place or the foreclosure should never have moved forward in the first place, our firm can help you fight for your rights and home.
